Keld Resource Centre provides a range of exhibitions, events and activities designed to promote and explain the natural and built heritage of the exceptionally beautiful Upper Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The tiny hamlet of Keld in Upper Swaledale, Yorkshire Dales, UK is a remote and exceptionally beautiful place. Keld Resource Centre exists to help visitors to this wonderful location better understand the natural and built heritage of the area, and to help build a sustainable local economy. We have a range of facilities and activities which support these aims: please come and visit and take part.
Countryside and Heritage Centre - at the heart of Keld village make this your first stop. The small exhibition will explain about the history of the area and give you a sense of what to look out for during your visit.
Well-being Garden - behind Keld Chapel our well-being garden provides a peaceful and beautiful spot for quiet contemplation.
Community Orchard - Behind Keld Chapel, our community orchard provides a second peaceful and beautiful spot for quiet contemplation
Walks - the area is best explored on foot. Download one of our self-guided walks from Cloudguide and get your boots on!
Events programme - during the summer months we run a range of special events, including talks, guided walks and special exhibitions. Please come along and join in.
ACCESSIBILITY
Keld Countryside and Heritage Centre is fully accessible, as is the Upper Room events and activity space. Disabled toilet facilities are available.
The Well-being Garden and walks programme are not accessible.
HOW TO REACH
Keld is on the B6270 Richmond-Kirkby Stephen road at the head of Swaledale. Postcode: DL11 6LJ
The 'Little White Bus' minibus service from Richmond (with onward bus connections to Darlington) operates four journeys to Keld, Mondays-Saturdays. Some of these need to be booked in advance: call 01969 667400 (0900-1730 Monday-Friday; 0900-1230 Saturday) to book, giving as much notice as possible.
ADMISSION
Entrance to the Countryside and Heritage Centre and the Well-being Garden is free.
A small fee applies for some of our special events - this is clearly indicated in the events description.
