Haarlem Railway Station

The original station building was replaced in 1906-1908 by a new one designed by the architect D.A.N. Margadant.

It was equipped with service areas, waiting rooms and other passenger facilities that were decorated with several ceramic wall panels. In 1927, the tracks in Haarlem station were electrified and the locomotive depot was lifted. In 1953, took place one of the few major architectural changes: the construction of the third platform, which architecture contrasts with the rest of the building. Since the Schiphollijn was operational in 1986, Haarlem was no longer a stopping point for the Intercity trains between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. On September 15th, 2008, the centenary of the construction of the current station building was celebrated. Haarlem is the only railway station in the Netherlands built in Art Nouveau style and is listed as a Dutch National Monument.
