Stedelijk Museum Breda

Stedelijk Museum Breda is the museum for the city’s heritage and history and for contemporary visual culture. It was created by a merger of Breda’s Museum and the Museum of the Image (MOTI).

About Stedelijk Museum Breda

Stedelijk Museum Breda is an attractive and inviting city museum that is open to ideas, dialogue and cooperation. We bring the city’s history to life and devise original exhibitions on history and visual culture. We challenge young and old to think by asking questions and looking for answers.

True Beauty - Where science and art meet
3 March until 19 August 2018

The face of science is continually changing. New areas of research, discoveries and technologies are producing a flow of new images. Sometimes they look like what we already know, but more often they invoke wonder and fascination.
For True Beauty, we made a selection of the most appealing images from science in the 21st century. Photographs, visualisations and animations by top international researchers are presented together with the work of artists who are inspired by science. Breda artist Hubert Leyendeckers plays a central role in the exhibition.

From Castle to Station - Masterpieces from the Breda Collection
17 June 2017 until 17 June 2022

From Castle to Stationtakes you on a short walk through history. Two exhibition rooms show special objects, documents, paintings and pictures that together tell the story of Breda. The rich collection reflects the history of a fortified town that developed into a city that brings together a wide diversity of people and businesses.

CollectionLab - A closer look at the collection
20 January 2018 until 31 December 2020

Breda’s expansive collections are largely unknown to experts and the wider public. That means you will often be faced with surprises, large and small. What are the stories behind the pieces? Where do they come from? Who made them? Who are the people portrayed in the paintings?

In this exhibition, you will see a selection of paintings and objects with a secret or a defect. We actively involve the public in unravelling these secrets. We also show you how we investigate and restore some of the pieces. On some days, you can also see our restorers at work in the museum.
