The Sagrada Família is a Catholic basilica on which construction began 19 March 1882 following the plans of architect Francesc de Paula del Villar (1828-1901). In late 1883, Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926) was commissioned to take over, a task he continued until he died. After his death, several architects have carried on the works following Gaudí's original plans.
The Sagrada Família is Gaudí's masterpiece and has become a symbol of Barcelona around the world. The Basilica is located in the city's Eixample district.
As of today, 70% of the work on the temple has been executed and the goal is to have all the architectural works finished by 2026. The challenge for 2020 is to complete the six central towers. The temple will be completed with construction of the main façade, the Glory façade.
