Computerspielemuseum

The Computerspielemuseum was founded in Berlin in 1997 as the world's first museum for interactive digital entertainment culture. With us, you will experience computer games as a significant force in our culture shaped by digital technology. We reflect games as part of one of the most ancient and most complex of all cultural techniques, i.e. playing. Step right in to follow our tour to show our playing habits in the 21st century as homo ludens turns into homo ludens digitis.

Our interactive permanent exhibition Computer Games. The Evolution of a Mediumfeatures one of the most interesting cultural artifacts and commodities of the 21st century. You can experience their historical development spanning across more than 60 years in our show that presents over 300 objects – rare originals, playable classics, interactive game objects and artistic installations. At the same time, the exhibition will inform you on the theme of digitalisation with regard to the games’ cultural and technological progress. It also addresses issues such as the protection of minors  and gambling addiction, plus it helps to reduce inhibition thresholds with regard to access to interactive media and fortifies media competence across all age groups.
