Fundación MAPFRE -Casa Garriga i Nogués-

Culture is an asset we want to bring to everyone.

The Garriga Nogués room is opening in the autumn of 2015. Since the facility opened, during different periods and types of activities, we have featured important content of Catalan origin and we have collaborated with some of the leading cultural institutions in Catalonia. A recent standout example is that of our collaboration with the MNAC in 2011 on the exhibition The Splendor of Romanesque, which presented the museum’s exceptional collection of Catalan Romanesque art in Madrid for the first time. The opening of this new facility consolidates this trajectory. We expect to organize exhibitions focusing on the early years of pictorial modernity (1850 - 1950) and on the great masters of photography. Our exhibition space covers an area of over 2700 m2 in an emblematic edifice that embraces various different architectural styles ranging from Rococo to Neoclassicism to Modernism.

ACCESSIBILITY

Hearing Accessibility

Under the auspices of their collaboration agreement, Fundación MAPFRE and Fundación CNSE, the foundation for the elimination of communication barriers, continue to work closely together on actions to encourage the participation of deaf people in artistic and cultural activities.

One way in which we strive to strengthen these ties is by offering exhibition tours for the deaf and hard of hearing at our Casa Garriga i Nogués hall.

All of these activities are free of charge and conducted for a maximum of 15 people. The group is accompanied by experienced specialist guides who have a voice amplifier so that they can also address the needs of people with some hearing. An official Catalan sign language interpreter also assists with the tour, specifically to liaise between the group members and the guide. Tours last approximately one hour. To sign up for a tour for the deaf or hard of hearing, please call 93 401 26 03 at least 24 hours in advance.

We also offer sign language guides. These are portable multimedia devices equipped with a screen that plays a video in which a selection of the most prominent works in the exhibition are explained using sign language (in Spanish and Catalan) and subtitles.

These guides can be requested free of charge at the audio guide desk.

Physical Accessibility

The exhibition spaces are spread across two floors (Floor 0 and Floor 1/Main Floor), accessed from the street and with an elevator inside the building for moving between floors. All of the spaces are generously sized, making it easy to tour the venue in a wheelchair.

On Level 0 there is a clearly indicated bathroom adapted for use by people with a disability. On the same floor there is also a wheelchair available, which can be requested from the security personnel at the entrance.

The workshop space at our Casa Garriga i Nogués Hall is not yet adapted for people with reduced mobility.

Visual Accessibility

The Culture Area of Fundación MAPFRE is committed to ensuring greater accessibility to our activities. Fundación ONCE (National Organization of the Blind in Spain) has been working with us since 2010, helping us to improve the accessibility of our exhibitions and providing us with editions in Braille.

Our audio guides with audio descriptions consist of a script and production specifically created for the blind and partially sighted. The aim is to provide as much autonomy as possible inside the venue and to use description techniques to transform the images into sound explanations. This service will be available in Catalan and Spanish.

Guide dogs and assistance dogs , duly accredited, are allowed in our halls.
