Experience what life was like in Northern Ireland over 100 years ago, and explore one of the most comprehensive transport collections in Europe.
Wander through the beautiful parkland of the Folk Museum, where you will encounter costumed locals, demonstrating traditional crafts in cottages, farm dwellings, schools, and shops.
You’ll find majestic locomotives, horse-drawn carriages, vintage motorbikes, and cars at the Transport Museum, along with exhibits of historical materials including photographs of the Titanic.
ACCESSIBILITY
There is a bus stop on the main road and a railway stop, Cultra Halt, beside the Transport Museum. Both public transport stops involve walking to gain access to the site.
Please note that the railway stop has stepped access to the Museum and is not suitable for a visitor using a wheelchair. There is an alternative route to the Museum however this involves a steep incline and would take approximately 20 minutes to complete before arriving at the venue.
Distance to the Transport Museum is a downhill walk of approximately 10 minutes from the Bangor Road bus stop.
Distance to the Folk Museum is an uphill walk of 15-20 minutes from the Bangor Road bus stop.
There is no entry charge for visitors with access needs and their carer. Please inform the admissions staff on arrival.
Transport Museum car park
Car parking is a surface, open air car park with 300 spaces. There are 9 blue badge designated parking bays within this carpark. These are allocated on a first come first served basis and cannot be pre-booked.
The nearest designated bay is 200 metres from the entrance to the museum.
The route from the car park to the entrance is on a flat surface and accessible to a wheelchair user.
Folk Museum car park
After passing a Security Kiosk, entrance to the main car park is up a steep hill.
Car parking is a surface, open air car park with 80 spaces. There are 15 blue badge designated parking spaces within this carpark. Theseare allocated on a first come first served basis and cannot be pre-booked.
The nearest designated bay is 20 metres from the entrance.
The route from the car park to the entrance is on a flat surface and accessible to a wheelchair user.
When the main car park is full, visitors are directed to park along the road within the Museum or at the entrance overflow carpark. Blue badge holders should make themselves known and Security will direct to available designated spaces or arrange drop off facilities.
Visitors are welcome to drive from one car park to another to facilitate access to both Museums.

Parking
Whether you’re coming by car, minibus or coach, you’ll find lots of parking. There are car parks at theTransport Museum, the Folk Museum and at Cultra Manor. We have dedicated spaces for Blue Badge holders in all our carparks. On event days we arrange additional car parking and transport. All on-site parking is free.
There are 2 Eco Car charging car parking spaces in the Transport Museum car park.
Public Transport
By rail:
The nearest train station is Cultra Halt which is on the main Belfast to Bangor train line. From there it’s a 2 minute walk to the Transport Galleries, or an uphill walk of about 15 minutes to the Folk Museum.
By bus:
There is a bus stop outside the museum entrance, on the main Belfast to Bangor road. Follow the path uphill to the Folk Museum for about a 10 minute walk, or downhill to the Transport Museum.
