A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum

A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum was the first theater museum in Russia and one of the first ones in the world. It was founded on 29th of October, 1894 by a prominent public figure, famous Moscow industrialist and patron of art, Alexey Bakhrushin /1865 – 1929/ and is located in his ex-mansion built in 1896 by architect K. Gippius.


A.A. Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum was the first theater museum in Russia and one of the first ones in the world. Today the museum’s funds include more than 1,5 million exhibits. There are costume and set designs from outstanding scenography masters, photographs and portraits, stage costumes of great actors, programmes and playbills of performances, rare publications about theatre art, decorative and applied art objects and many more.

The main building and nine branchesofmuseumarelocated in Moscow. There is also a branch in Zaraysk (Moscow Oblast), the Bakhrushins' homeland.
