Kupferstichkabinett

The Kupferstichkabinett is home to a universe of "art on paper" with masterpieces by Sandro Botticelli, Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, Adolph Menzel and Vincent van Gogh, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Pablo Picasso, as well as Andy Warhol and Gerhard Richter. With its treasures, it is a central place of artistic ideas, images and forms of expression of Europe and the world cultures associated with Europe.


It houses works from 1,000 years of art, culture and media history from the Middle Ages to the present. The museum's collection includes about 550,000 prints and 110,000 drawings, watercolors, pastels and oil sketches. The Kupferstichkabinett collects European and, more recently, international drawings and prints. There are also illuminated,  Paints of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, decorated with paintings, books with artist graphics, portfolios, sketchbooks, topographic views and printing plates. 

As a museum of graphic arts, it is the collection, competence and exhibition center of the State Museums in Berlin for drawing and printing graphics, book painting and artistic book illustration. The Kupferstichkabinett is the largest graphic collection in Germany and belongs to the four most important museums of its kind worldwide. Book painting and artistic book illustration
