This application is the result of the actions carried out by the Architectural Ceramics Module of the Ceramics and its Dimensions project. The work has focused on research and dissemination of applied ceramic heritage in European architecture.
Architecture attributes personality to European cities, generating landmarks with buildings and unique spaces. That personality is reinforced by the ceramic applied to architecture which manifests and distinguishes the spirit and vision of the world of society through elements of color or symbols linked to each place. Architecture and ceramics reflect also the relationships and historical connections in Europe as the results of transfers in technique, knowledge and artistic languages from the Baroque to today.
The research project focused on the usage of ceramics in architecture by artists, architects, and industry, and analysed its expansion as an architectural decorative covering thanks to its use by some of the European art movements of the time. Within this framework, the module studied the main buildings, architects, and artists that have used ceramics as an architectural element in Europe, the various uses of ceramics in architecture, the main ceramic products, their technological innovations and commercial relations.
