Centraal Station

The Amsterdam Central Station is the main railway station in the capital city of the Netherlands. Built between 1881 and 1889, it is the work of the architect Pierre Cuypers (who also designed the Rijksmuseum building) and mechanical engineer Dolf van Gendt. It features a Gothic-Renaissance Revival station building and a cast iron platform roof spanning approximately 40 meters.

Since 1997, the station building, underground passages, metro station and the surrounding area have been undergoing major reconstruction and renovation works to accommodate the North-South Line metro route, which is due to open in 2018. Moreover, these works included the construction of the known as Cuyperspassage, the tunnel that connects Amsterdam and the IJ-river and which was finished in 2015.
