Stretching along Italy’s southern coastline, the Amalfi Coast is a breathtaking blend of dramatic cliffs, pastel-hued villages, and azure waters. This UNESCO-listed region offers a rich tapestry of history, culture, and natural beauty—from medieval towns and lemon-scented terraces to world-famous hiking trails and hidden coves. Whether you’re exploring historic cathedrals, savoring fresh seafood, or simply soaking in the views, the Amalfi Coast promises unforgettable experiences at every turn.
HOW TO REACH
To reach the Amalfi Coast, most travelers start from Naples, which is the closest major city with an international airport and good rail connections. Here are the main options:
From Naples by Train: Take a train to either Sorrento or Salerno. From Sorrento, you can catch the SITA bus along the coast to towns like Positano or Amalfi. From Salerno, you can walk to the port and take a ferry directly to Amalfi or other coastal towns.
From Naples by Ferry: During the warmer months (typically May to October), direct ferries run from Naples’ Molo Beverello port to Amalfi and Positano, offering scenic and traffic-free travel.
From Naples by Bus: Buses run from Naples Capodichino Airport to Sorrento or Salerno. From these hubs, you can transfer to local SITA buses or ferries to reach your destination along the coast.
From Rome: Take a high-speed train to Naples (about 1 hour), then follow the above options. Alternatively, you can arrange a private transfer or drive, but expect a longer journey and potential traffic.
Once on the Amalfi Coast, you can move between towns by local SITA bus or ferry. The bus is the most budget-friendly option, while the ferry is faster and avoids road traffic, but it only runs seasonally and is more expensive. Ferries offer stunning views and are a popular choice in summer, while buses operate year-round and are reliable for getting between all the main villages.
Parking is limited and expensive along the coast, so public transport is often the best and most relaxing way to travel.
