Majolikahaus

The six-storey building known as Majolikahaus(Majolica House) was designed by the architect Otto Wagner in 1898, as well as its neighbour building, the House of Medallions (at number 38), with which forms an architectonical set of the Wiener Secession style.

Its  large  and  wide  façade  features  some  of  the  main  characteristics  of  this  artistic  style.  Tiled  with  majolica,  presents  a  floral  decoration  which  served  as  a  distinction  between  the  ground  floor,  dedicated  to  shops,  and  the  upper  housing  floors.  At  present,  the  edifice  remains  with  its  intentional  program,  with  retail  shops  on  the  ground  floor  and  apartments  above.  The  building  is  classified  as  a  Denkmalgeschütztes  Objekt (protected  object-monument)  by  the  Austrian  government.
