Aalto's summer residence, known as the Experimental House, is situated on the western shore of the Muuratsalo island. It consists of the main building, which contains the living areas, the courtyard and a guest-room space.
Through the process of designing the house, it became an experimental study of architecture, materials, aesthetic effects and finishing techniques. It was a summer house for the Aalto family until 1994. Nowadays, Alvar Aalto Museum takes care of the building, which can be visited.
