Powerhouse Museum

This former power station is the flagship venue for the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) Located on the site of the old Ultimo Power Station, the Powerhouse opened as a museum in 1988 and is the largest in Australia, with a collection of 385,000 objects, 22 permanent and five temporary display spaces, and more than 250 interactive exhibits.


ACCESSIBILITY

We aim to provide venues, exhibitions, programs and services which can be enjoyed by all visitors, including those with disabilities.

Companion Card

MAAS is an affiliate of the NSW Government’s Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care’s Companion Card program. This means that carers who accompany a person with a disability will be eligible for free entry on presentation of their Companion Card. Visit the Companion Card website for more information.

Access

Entry to the Powerhouse is via Harris St only. Access within the Powerhouse Museum is via ramps and an elevator. For visitors using manual wheelchairs, the elevator is recommended. Groups of visitors planning a visit with more than one wheelchair user can arrange access to an additional elevator. Please contact us in advance on +61 (02) 9217 0222.

Accessible toilets are located on level 2.


HOW TO REACH

The Powerhouse Museum is located at 500 Harris St, Ultimo and is close to Darling Harbour, Chinatown, Central Station (Sydney Terminal), Broadway bus station (Railway Square), and Exhibition Centre Sydney Light Rail Station. From 1 June 2020, entry is via Harris St only.

The Goods Line provides an accessible pedestrian route from Central Station, past the iconic Dr Chau Chak Wing Building designed by Frank Gehry. The Goods Line is a 500m walk along flat terrain starting from the Devonshire Street Tunnel at Central Station’s Southern Concourse. The 501 bus stops directly outside the Museum.
