Santa Maria della Scala offers a broad range of tours linked to the historical, architectural, artistic and functional complexity of the building and the works of art it contains. There are tours focusing on its astonishing architectural stratification and on the evolution of its functional and welfare areas, others exploring the hospital's artistic history and such monumental masterpieces as Jacopo della Quercia's Fonte Gaia fountain, and yet others devoted to the National Archaeological Museum inside the former hospital. GETTING THERE BY CAR:
from the north: A1 motorway, "Firenze Impruneta" exit; Florence-Siena dual carriageway
from the south: A1 motorway, "Valdichiana" exit; Bettolle-Siena dual carriageway

The historical city centre being closed to private vehicular traffic, the museum cannot be reached by car.

The closest car parks are situated close to the city walls; the most convenient car parks being Il Campo, Duomo and Santa Caterina (linked to the Cathedral hill via an escalator).

GETTING THERE BY TRAIN:
Siena railway station is in Piazza Carlo Rosselli, roughly 2 km from the historical city centre. The centre may be reached by city bus or taxi.
If you prefer to walk, you can either take the Stazione-Antiporto escalator then walk along Viale Vittorio Emanuele II, Via Camollia, Via dei Montanini; or, if you wish to avoid using the escalator, simply walk along Viale Mazzini, Via Garibaldi and then Via dei Montanini.
