Imperial Café

The Imperial Café is located at the ground floor of the homonymous hotel, which was designed by the architect Jaroslav Benediktand built during 1913-1914 in geometric Art Deco style. Besides, it was embellished interiorly by late-Art Nouveau ceramics and mosaic panels designed by Jan Benes.

During  the  World  War  II,  the  building  became  a  popular  place  for  German  soldiers  at  the  same  time  it  was  abandoned  by  the  visitors,  as  a  consequence.  In  1948,  the  Trade  Unions'  Association  took  over  the  hotel,  which  provided  accommodation  for  guests  and  members  of  this  association  until  the  1980s,  when  its  use  as  a  hotel  was  ceased.  Between  2005  and  2007,  were  undertaken  extensive  reconstruction  works.  At  present,  the  Imperial  Café  is  one  of  the  most  famous  cafés  in  Prague.
