Casa Asia

Casa Asia was created with the will to strengthen the knowledge and dialogue about Asia in Spain, with the analysis and discussion of civic, political, social, cultural, economic and environmental issues, supporting activities and projects that contribute to a better knowledge between Asian and Spanish societies, and to promote the development of relations among them.

Therefore, it consists of building a project based on collaboration among all the agents interested in Asia and the Pacific, with a vocation of service and with the aspiration of becoming a reference regarding this part of the world. With this purpose, Casa Asia was created in 2001 with a consortium made up of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, through its Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), the Government of Catalonia and the Barcelona and Madrid City Councils.

Sant Pau’s Modernist Venue

With this change of location, Casa Asia joins the project promoted by Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia (Generalitat) of bringing together international institutions at the Modernist group of Sant Pau, because it is planned to become a reference centre within this field in a couple of years.

Sant Pau's Modernist Venue, designed by the architect Lluis Domenech i Montaner, is a landmark of heritage and culture of the city of Barcelona in particular, and Catalonia in general. In 1997 was declared World Heritage by UNESCO due to its architectural uniqueness and artistic beauty. The Private Foundation Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau is the institution in charge of managing the monumental and artistic heritage of its Modernist Venue. Its Board, the Most Illustrious Administration is made up equally of the Government of Catalonia (Generalitat), Barcelona City Council and the Cathedral Chapter.
