The National Palace of Queluz charms whether for its imposing nature or the sheer exuberance of its architectural details closely bound up with the lives of three generations of the Portuguese Royal Family and the scene of intense emotions. The Palace furthermore reflects the evolution in the tastes and styles over different period, moving from the Baroque to the Rococo and onto Neoclassicism.
Its surrounding scenic gardens invite you for a “stroll” through a period in which the court organised sumptuous parties and that hold the memories of trips by gondola along the canal, theatre, hunting, musical and literary performances, masked balls, games and open-air recitals. A dreamlike scenario, animated by the waterfalls and delicate water games.
ACCESSIBILITY
The museological interior of the National Palace of Queluz is fully accessible. It is possible to enter the Palace through ramps and the interior of the monument is fully levelled and with wide corridors. The shop, at the end of the route, is also accessible. The cafeteria is accessible by a lift platform or by the exterior through the Gardens, however, it is necessary to contact the staff to provide both visit options. The Gardens are accessible, and now have a considerable area of rehabilitated pavement. Several types of equipment, such as wheelchairs and traction equipment (equipment that may be adapted to a vast majority of manual chairs) are available for safe and autonomous circulation. In order to access the Gardens, permanent ramps are available from inside the Palace. The exit from the Gardens, to the interior of the Palace, is, once again, made by ramp. At the beginning of the visit, a tactile model of the monument is available, including the Palace and the Upper Gardens.
