Yellowstone National Park, established in 1872, is America's first national park. Spanning 2.2 million acres across Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, it features dramatic geothermal wonders, stunning canyons, and abundant wildlife.

Yellowstone National Park sits atop one of the world's largest active volcanic systems, creating a landscape unlike anywhere else on Earth. Home to over half the world's active geysers, including the iconic Old Faithful, the park showcases nature's raw power through bubbling mud pots, steaming fumaroles, and vibrant hot springs like the Grand Prismatic Spring.

Beyond its geothermal wonders, Yellowstone protects a vast wilderness of alpine meadows, ancient forests, and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone with its spectacular waterfalls. The park supports one of the largest intact temperate-zone ecosystems, providing habitat for grizzly bears, wolves, bison, elk, and hundreds of other species.

ACCESSIBILITY

Many boardwalks and viewpoints are wheelchair accessible, including Old Faithful viewing area, Grand Prismatic Spring overlook, and several canyon viewpoints. Accessible restrooms are available at all major visitor centers. Some trails and backcountry areas have limited accessibility.

HOW TO REACH

Yellowstone has five entrances. The most popular is the West Entrance via West Yellowstone, MT (open late April-early November). The North Entrance via Gardiner, MT is the only year-round entrance. Nearest airports: Bozeman Yellowstone International (BZN, 90 miles north), Jackson Hole Airport (JAC, 60 miles south), and Yellowstone Airport in West Yellowstone (WYS, seasonal). No public transportation operates within the park; a personal vehicle is required.

Vehicle pass: $35 (valid 7 days). Motorcycle: $30. Individual (foot/bicycle): $20. Annual pass: $70. America the Beautiful Annual Pass: $80 (covers all national parks). Children 15 and under: Free.
