This historic house and museum stands out in its unique way of preserving the original atmosphere of the time when it was the residence of the Marquis de Cerralbo and his family.
Museo Cerralbo is a landmark in the art of collecting in Spain and retains the essence of the period when Don Enrique de Aguilera y Gamboa, the 17th Marquis of Cerralbo (1845-1922), built the palace to live in, house his collections and engage in an active social and political life.
Its exhibition halls, furnished according to the tastes of the late 19th century, and the works of art it houses are a testament to the life of the Madrid aristocracy at the time, as well as Don Enrique de Aguilera’s fondness for compiling what was one of the finest private art collections of the time, which he bequeathed to the Spanish state in 1922.
ACCESSIBILITY
The characteristics of the rooms in which predominates the narrow passages, and museology showing the works in their original assembly without protective elements, visually impaired visitors will find some difficulties in the path of the Museum. Not so with the deaf, hearing impaired or disabled, for which the museum has been specially adapted.
