Atomium

The Atomium audioguides are not available on CloudGuide anymore. • The symbol of Belgium & the landmark of Brussels • Surrealistic architecture • Panorama [360°] over Brussels [92m] • Permanent exhibition dedicated to the building • Temporary exhibitions [design & society topics] • Panoramic restaurant [95m].

THE SYMBOL OF BELGIUM & BRUSSELS.

A seminal totem in the Brussels skyline. Neithertower, nor pyramid. Half-way between sculpture and architecture. A relic of the past with a deter- minedly futuristic look. The Atomium is the only symbol of its kind in the world, which eludes any kind of classification.

The Atomium was not intended to survive beyond the 1958 World Fair [aka "Expo'58] but its popularity and success soon made it a key landmark, first of Brussels then countrywide and finally European.

THE ATOMIUM TODAY:

a surrealistic walk through tubes and spheres

the most beautiful panorama 360° over Brussels and its surroundings [92m]

a fine lunch in the panoramic [95m] restaurant (light or gastronomic, always 100 % Belgian)

a permanent exhibition about the history of the building [2 levels]

temporary exhibitions with different themes [3 levels]

a boutique full of original gifts with the Atomium colors

ACCESSIBILITY

The tour includes a visit to 5 spheres [of the 9] across 8 levels.
This tour is broken down in 2 parts:

1. THE PANORAMA [part 1]
Starting from the ground floor by elevator to the panorama [level 7].

2. THE EXHIBITIONS [part 2]
Starting from the ground floor on foot * to the higher levels:

permanent exhibition [levels 1 & 2]

temporary exhibitions [levels 3-4-5]

viewpoint [level 6]

(*) this tour – in addition to escalators – includes 80 steps to walk up and 167 steps to walk down divided into various sections.

The Kids’ Sphere is only accessible to school groups who booked or, occasionally, for planned workshops.

The other spheres are technical areas or are exclusively reserved for rental and are, therefore, not open to the public.

The panoramic restaurant [level 8] is not – strictly speaking – part of the visit, but is freely accessible to customers from the panorama [level 7].

With the exception of the top sphere which is only accessible by elevator, the rest of the Atomium is difficult to access for people with reduced mobility and unfortunately impossible to access with wheelchairs. Therefor the entrance to the Atomium is free for people with a handicap.

Anyone who needs assistance [people in wheelchairs etc.] must be accompanied. Anyone accompanying somebody in a wheelchair must pay for his/her ticket [teacher fee]. Entrance is free for anybody with a disability permit.

Due to steep and narrow escalators and many stairs, the visit with a baby carriage in the Atomium is not possible and therefore not allowed.
